The scar particularly the facial is not aesthetically pleasing and can cause psychological distress to patients, resulting in poor body image, reduced self-esteem, generally loss of confidence and at times certain social stigma. Our skin undergoes an endurance test on a day-to-day basis throughout our life. Common injuries, cuts, burns, accidents, surgeries and inflammatory skin diseases constitute an incomplete list of reasons for scarring. Prevention of an unsightly scar is primarily important requirement to any Surgeons but particularly important to Facial Plastics and Aesthetic Surgeons.This textbook aims at providing best possible knowledge about the various types of scars, their etiology, characteristic features along with a detailed guide on the various non- surgical and surgical management options available.We hope that this textbook would allow various clinicians across the globe to correctly diagnose and manage such conditions with an ease.
