This book first describes the history and development processes of antipsychotics (early developments, conventional antipsychotics, atypical antipsychotics and future developments). Secondly, the development of adjuvant treatment options is described. Non-pharmacological treatment options are also briefly mentioned. Finally, the symptoms and backgrounds of schizophrenia are described. This book provides insight into the chemistry and pharmacology of antipsychotics and also into the backgrounds, causes and treatment of schizophrenia. In this Fourth Scientific edition, some new developments are discussed and new aspects are named.

Jan Beugelink is een deskundige op het gebied van farmacie, psychiatrie en psychofarmacologie. Hij heeft gestudeerd aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen en heeft daar zijn graad in farmacie behaald. Met bijna 35 jaar ervaring in de farmaceutische industrie heeft hij veel kennis opgedaan over chemie, farmacie en farmacologie. Daarnaast is hij ook een registratiedeskundige. Zijn belangstelling voor psychiatrie en psychofarmacologie is een rode draad in zijn carrière. Met zijn expertise heeft hij bijgedragen aan de ontwikkeling en registratie van diverse geneesmiddelen.
