With the increased media attention and exposure over the GM Crops issue with endless debates, it is critical to know the present stand of Indian scientific community and farmers. The scientific community in India is the one single entity which forms the basis for all technological debates. The risk and benefit perception of scientific community about this controversial technology and their suggestions towards research and outreach will determine the future of biotechnology applications in Indian agriculture. The existing social capital status and its potential to support the introduction of high end biotechnology applications along with farmer readiness had to be investigated. This pioneer study provides clarity on important issues affecting the future of GM crops in India.

Dr. Sajeev M.V. belongs to Agricultural Research Service under Indian council of Agricultural Research and serves as a Scientist (Agricultural Extension) at Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur. He has more than 50 publications including 6 books, 10 book chapters and 14 research papers.
