The principal, who is at the apex of the internal secondary schools' management structure, acts as a liaison between the government, through the post primary school management board, and staff/students within the school environment. However, emotions do not affect organizations but its management contributes to organizational structures or processes, therefore organizations like schools are emotional places. Various events in schools create emotions which affect the principals' and teachers sense of perception, satisfaction, performance and outrage. A teacher's sense of organizational identity is connected to how he feels and perceives the principal's emotional and leadership competence in the school. The purpose of the study was therefore, to examine the secondary school principals' emotional management competence as perceived by the principals and the vice principals and how some selected variables influence the emotional management competence of school principals in Rivers State, Nigeria.
