Self-regulated Learning, Locus of Control, and Reading Comprehension

One of the important aims of education reform is to enhance students ability in learning to learn. In order to attain this goal, teachers are needed to teach students both knowledge and required skills. In turn students need to reserve the taught knowledge and skills which will help them become capable lifelong learners. Learning to learn is the ability to strive and endure in learning to adjust ones learning process through effective management of time and information. This process is related to the theory of self-regulated learning. Of course, much recent debates has centered on students` conceptions of learning, which is believed to be influenced by their competencies, past experiences, expectations and beliefs about the level of perceived control they can perform about learning. This sense of personal control over the educational process is known as locus of control (LOC). Accordingly, in this book it is tried to introduce a new innovative way to teachers in teaching reading comprehension to EFL learners in teaching English as a second/ foreign language with any native language background.

Najva Nejabati received her M.A. in TEFL from Islamic Azad University (Science and Research Tehran Branch) in 2013. She is teaching at university. Her areas of interest include psycholinguistics, testing and assessment, self-regulated learning, language teaching methodology, and also the study of ecological issues related to second pedagogy.
