Serum concentration of some macro and micro elements in camels

The objective of this book is to determine the serum concentration of some macro and micro elements and total protein in dromedaries. The sample consisted of 53 dromedaries maintained at the Niono and Sotuba sites. All animals received appropriate dietary and veterinary monitoring. Serological analysis was performed by determining the effect of sex, age and site on total protein content and serum mineral concentration. Phosphorus levels averaged 6.08±0.41 mmol/l for Niono and 2.48±0.50 mm for Sotuba. Magnesia averaged 0.68±0.03 for Niono and 0.44±0.06 mmol/l for Sotuba. Kalemia was 3.75±0.12 mmol/l for Niono and 2.63±0.10 mmol/l for Sotuba. The measured chloraemia was 132.64 ± 2.77 mmol/l for Niono and 116.27 ± 4.99 mmol/l for Sotuba. The peak of serum iron concentration was reached at 6 months of age. Total protein and phosphorus content were remarkable between the two age categories. Biochemical mineral and protein blood parameters can be plasma indicators of camel nutritional status.
