Sex Estimation from Talus in Adult North-Eastern Nigeria
Details
Sex Estimation from Talus in North-Eastern Nigeria is a research work that was carried out in University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri, Borno State-Nigeria in collaboration with University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State - Nigeria. The work was carried out to study the sexual difference in a bone that can withstand stress. Talus was used due to its location and its association with protective soft tissues. The work shows the sexual differeces between the male and female tali within the same age group, demarking points as well as index of sexual dimorphism were also determined. The used of talus for sex estimation was informed by the fact that Shallow burials often result in the loss of some already established sexual dimorphic skeletal materials like the skull, pelvic bones and other long bones, but the compactness and the association of soft tissue, increase the chances of talus in field recovery. This work therefore gives a guide on how to estimate the sex as well as the age of adults North-Eastern Nigerians using talus.
