Details

Sharing the Stories chronicles how nine Aboriginal women overcame the effects of racism, abuse, self-doubt, low self-esteem, a lack of positive role-models, and young parenthood to become strong, vibrant, educated women. It highlights how they reclaimed education as a tool in building a positive, healthy future, rather than the weapon of oppression and pain it had been in the past. Women were chosen because they are considered the keepers of the family, the community, and the culture-that to educate one woman is to educate a whole village. As such, women hold the keys to the future for all Aboriginal people. Sharing the Stories will be a captivating read for all who open her pages. These women and Dr. Offet-Gartner share their stories of transformation with such grace and openness you'll feel as if you know them well. Those who are interested in Qualitative or Cross-Cultural Research, Psychology, Counselling, Career Development, Aboriginal Peoples, Education or Transformative Learning will find this book beneficial, whether student, academic, or practitioner. Helping professionals & educators-especially those who work with Indigenous people-will consider this a 'must read' book.
