Shiftwork, Job Satisfaction and Family Life

The study examined the influence of shift work on nurses job satisfaction. It also determined the influence of shift work on nurses family life and assessed the influence of marital status on nurses job satisfaction and family life. Primary data were used in the study. The data were collected among nurses in Osun State, Nigeria. The sample consisted of 322 nurses drawn from two hospitals in Osun State, using random sampling procedure. Three standardized psychological instruments namely: Minnesota Multiphasic Job Satisfaction Questionnaire, Family Life Questionnaire and Shift Work Questionnaire, were used to collect data from the respondents. Data collected were subjected to both descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. The results showed that shift work had no significant influence on job satisfaction of nurses (F = 0.114, p 0.05). The results further showed that marital status had significant influence on nurses family life (F = 19.84, p 0.05).
