Sketches by Boz

The chronicles in Dickens' Sketches by Boz (1836) present diverse themes through humor, and the characters represent real life, the routine of the streets, and workers in London. Dickens painted a portrait of the customs of the puritanical and hypocritical Victorian middle class. English literature studies Literary Sketches or simply Sketches as forms of Short Stories or Short Fiction, a growing field of study that can be compared to the Brazilian chronicle. Thus, Dickens' text presents the city of London in the 1800s through texts marked by detailed descriptions of everyday situations, a graphic representation of characters and scenes through humor, which is used to weave a critique of Victorian society.

The author holds a Bachelor's Degree in Portuguese/English and Literature (2006), a Bachelor's Degree in Translation (2014), a Master's Degree in Literary Studies (2017), all from the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), and a Specialization in Translation from Faculdade Estácio (2017). She conducts literary research on Charles Dickens' book Sketches by Boz.
