Smile Designing

An ideal smile in dentistry has often been linked to straight white teeth. Teeth are important but there are far more components working together for an ideal smile. Smile design not only means designing teeth, but also creating a smile that truly complements the patient's face and personality. Therefore, smile designing is an interdisciplinary approach involving restorative, orthodontic, prosthodontic and periodontal approaches. The various components of smile design, diagnostic aids used and the various periodontal surgeries involved in giving a beautiful smile have been highlighted here.
