In Arabic, Ba ath means "renaissance" or "resurrection", referring to Aflaq and al-Bitar''s vision of "resurrecting" the freedom and glory of the Arab Nation that had been destroyed by Ottoman, and Western imperialism an idea covered in Michel Aflaq''s published works On the Way of Resurrection.
