SNAPSHOT AT METAL BIOLOGY
Details
The biology of metals?; Although an apparent
oxymoron the reader is introduced to the interesting
role of metal ions in particular biological
processes, therefore blurring the conventional
limits between inorganic(dead)/organic(living)
matter. Exploring the relatively new field of
Bioinorganic Chemistry, this book contains an
initial approach towards the study of different
chemical interactions of platinum(II) and palladium
(II)ions with essential biological substrates such
as nucleobases and aminoacids, the basic components
of DNA/RNA and proteins respectively. An extension
of model systems towards more relevant cases is also
covered in this book with potential insights into
the mechanism of anti-tumoral/anti-viral metal
chemotherapeutics.
This work is of interest particularly to chemists,
biochemists, medicinal chemists and molecular
biologists.
Autorentext
Atilio I. Anzellotti, Ph.D., M.Sc., Studied Bioinorganic Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University (U.S.A.) and the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (Venezuela). Currently is a Senior Radiochemist at IBA Molecular Inc. focused on Molecular Imaging.
