Social and Economical Aspects of Disaster Situations

Large-scale disasters occur all over the world and their social and economical aspects affect the population, impede the functions of society, and cause problems at one or more levels of administration: local, regional, national, international (when several countries are affected). The direct and indirect disaster consequences cause losses and damages both to population and companies (business units). In response to those challenges, a model of the system society-nature has been built. The future challenges and perspectives before the business and society - caused by current and future disaster situations - were analyzed. The international strategies for population protection were summarized. The participation and co-operation of business units in connection with disasters were considered. The knowledge and management of social and economical aspects of disaster situations is of exceptional significance for minimization of those unfavorable events. The contents of the book should be useful to professionals in different spheres and anyone else, who may be considering society resilience to disasters nowadays and in the future that we will live in.
