Social Background and Professional Aspirations of Women Students

The book analyses the impact of social background on professional aspirations of women students in Odisha with reference to Bhubaneswar city. Based on a sample of women students drawn from three colleges, the study examines the pattern of carrier orientation among women and their attitudes towards employment, marriage and family. It looks into the role played by sociological determinants like caste, class, religion and education in shaping professional aspirations of women.

Dr. Pritinanda Mohanty currently teaches at the Department of Sociology, University of Madras, Chennai. She taught for a brief period at the Centrefor Women's Studies, Pondicherry University. Dr. Mohanty was a lecturer in Sociology for about 12 years in government aided colleges of Odisha. She obtained Ph.D in sociology from Utkal University.
