Social Communication and Kurdish Political Mobilisation in Turkey

This book argues that processes of national identity formation require a dense network of social communication and physical interaction, through which to integrate the individual members of a would-be community into a coherent collective entity. This network of communication can be generated through a top-down process directed by states, or it can alternatively be fashioned through a bottom-up process initiated by other institutions such as mass movements. Through the investigation of the Kurdish experience, it measures the extent to which the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have been engaged in the generation and solidification of such an interactional space with which to promote the process of Kurdish national integration.
