Social Impact Assessment for Developing Economic Zones

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority aims to establish economic zones in all potential areas in Bangladesh including backward and underdeveloped regions with a view to encouraging rapid economic development through increase and diversification of industry, employment, production and export'. As a part of this, BEZA is working for establishing EZs. The objectives of this study to know the social impact for developing 100 Economic Zones in Bangladesh. I have able to identify unavoidable adverse impacts are mitigated with appropriate measures to enhance, or at least to preserve, the current living standards of those who would be affected for developing Shreehatta Economic Zone in Bangladesh. The Shreehatta Economic Zone (SEZ) is one of the best economic zone of BEZA located in Moulovibazar district under Sylhet division in Bangladesh . It is expected that these EZs will act as catalytic agents to attract domestic and foreign investments, promote exports, earn foreign exchange, create employment opportunities for local workers - both men and women - and stimulate the growth of national and local economies.
