Social performance analysis of Microfinance Institutions in Rwanda

This study strives to analyse the social performance in microfinance institutions of RWANDA through the use of sample of SACCOs. To reach the objective of this study, we have used the PPI score card of RWANDA developed by GRAMEEN Bank in 2005 and up dated in 2010, expecting to classify the current clients "economic status according to national poverty line. As far as the social performance audit is concerned, the use of SPI audit tool version 3.3.1 have been useful to measure social performance under the following four social main dimensions: Targeting the poor and excluded; Adaptation of services to the clients; Benefit to the clients and Social responsibility. The PPI result has indicated that the majority of the current clients served in IYUNGURE SACCO amounted at 79% are under national poverty line. The SPI audit tool result has indicated the social performance in IYUNGUURE SACCO is at 66%. However it needs to reinforce progressively its social performance with the reasons of covering the gaps identified for each social dimension. This research work therefore, bridges some social performance gaps in some social important areas.
