Socio-Architecture

For a long time, Bahraini Society has been characterised by a strong inter-dependence among its diverse people. Throughout history all segments of the Society in the different classes and religious sectors were collectively involved in religious, social and national events, reflecting in the richness and solidarity of the social fabric of the population of Bahrain. Recently this bond has begun to change. The earliest stage of this change can be traced perhaps to the foreign occupation of the land, although the changes then were marginal and insignificant. After the discovery of oil, globalisation led to a rush of rapid urban development resulting in major changes in the physical environment. These physical developments often did not reflect culturally accepted patterns which also caused social changes. This is clearly shown in the case study that was done about some neighborhoods in Bahrain. This research is to find out how to build cohesive neighbourhoods that reflect traditional culture in order to matche contemporary life style.
