Migration in all countries has continued under the form of voluntary migration within one's region, country or beyond and involuntary migration includes the slave trade, trafficking in human beings and ethnic cleansing. One important facet of the study is the study of migration arising out of various social, economic and political reasons. When a person is enumerated in the census at a different place than his/ her place of birth, she / he is a Migrant. Rural to urban migration has historically been classic pattern of Human migration. The massive growth of urban areas has been associated with a variety of problems ranging from over crowding, pressures in the environment, lack of housing and increasing inequality between different segments of the population. Migrant labour makes enormous contribution to the Indian economy. But they remain on the periphery of the society. In order to raise their standards of living and to give them awareness on government schemes this study gains important.

Densingh Rajan J, is a Catholic priest from R. C diocese of Sivagangai. He has served in the diocesan social organization. He has pursued his master degrees in Sociology and Social Work. He has done his master of philosophy in social work domain in Loyola College, Chennai. He did his dissertations on migrants in both master degree and M. Phil.
