Socio-Political Consciousness in the Cameroonian Novel
Details
This book examines social and political life in the contemporary Cameroonian novel. In it, Dr. Ntambo exposes the canker worms that have bedeviled the post-colonial nation. Socially, he exposes ills such as tribalism, nepotism, alcoholism and drunkenness. From the Economic tangent, he exposes mediocrity in government, ostentatious living by the leaders, embezzlement and capital flight, exacerbated by economic waste. Political irresponsibility by the government, which plays second fiddle to an oppressive neo-colonial presence, is underscored. Indulging in occultist and other predatory practices to retain power, the leaders oppresses the masses and refuses to engage in meaningful dialogue with them. These varied ills account for the country's poor performance and the resultant economic stasis. But the author is not merely interested in laying blame. He rounds up his work by making feasible suggestions by which the leadership, working in collaboration with the citizens, can pull the nation out if the present precarious situation and place her on the path of development and welfare for everybody.
