Solid Waste Management Practices: A Case Study of Kathmandu Valley

Household solid waste management is one of the major challenges of rapidly growing cities. The improper management of the wastes has created massive threat to the environment and the health of the people. So, proper management of the household wastes is a must. This study has been conducted to assess the current practices of solid waste management at household level in Kathmandu Valley. Solid waste is one of the most serious environmental problems facing in the Kathmandu City. Inadequate collection and disposal of waste in Kathmandu city has been posing a serious health risk to the population. This is mainly because people are not conscious of proper and well maintained waste management systems This kind of inadequate collection causes for environmental degradation in the city. This study highlights practical issues of waste management, policy level gap to make environment friendly city.
