SoNorA (South North Axis) is a project of the European Union in the Interreg IV-B programme with the aim to improve the accessibility between the Adriatic and the Baltic Sea. 25 international project partners from Italy, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovenia cooperate in order to develop a south-north corridor from the Baltic Sea harbours to the Adriatic harbours as a further core area in Central Europe (next to the "Blue Banana"). The partners are port authorities, regions, chambers of commerce and universities. The main task is the modal shift in transport from road to rail and the strengthening of the harbours along SoNorA against the harbors of the North Sea.
