Sport and Burkina Faso's international influence

Like other countries, Burkina Faso takes part in and hosts international competitions in a variety of disciplines. The participation of Burkinabè athletes in various competitions is admired not only by Burkinabè, but also by other populations in Africa and around the world. Similarly, a number of Burkinabè sportsmen and women also play for clubs on and off the continent, particularly in soccer. Burkina Faso's influence is further enhanced by the remarkable interdependence between sport and the media. The media are the interface between sport and consumers. In recent years, the audience for sporting events has grown with the development of information and communication technologies. Through the media, Burkina Faso is known throughout Africa and the world through its participation in competitions such as the CAN, the Olympic Games, and the organization of major sporting events such as the CAN 98 and the Tour du Faso.
