The city and county of San Francisco is home to MLB's San Francisco Giants, the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL. Also, for one season (1995-96), it was home to the San Francisco Spiders of the International Hockey League. The city of San Jose is home to the San Jose Sharks of the NHL, the San Jose Stealth of the National Lacrosse League, and the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. The San Jose Earthquakes returned to Major League Soccer in 2008 after a two-season absence. The new incarnation of the Earthquakes, which inherited the original Earthquakes' history despite having no direct relation to that team, currently play in Santa Clara. The city of Oakland is home to the Golden State Warriors of the NBA, MLB's Oakland Athletics, and the Oakland Raiders of the NFL. The newest professional team in the region is FC Gold Pride of Women's Professional Soccer, which played its 2009 inaugural season in Santa Clara alongside the Earthquakes, but is moving to the East Bay community of Hayward for 2010.
