This study is the broadest and most up-to-date commentary on Catalonia's »Llei de Política Linguística« of 7 January 1998. In the debate on language legislation the following topics have been the subject of impassioned controversy: the fundamental duty of all citizens to have a command of Catalan; quota regulations for the media and private companies on the use of Catalan in television and radio transmissions and on product labels.
