Standardization of Sufoof-e-Mohazzil: A Unani formulation for obesity

Traditional, complementary and alternative medicines are attracting more and more attention with the context of health care provision and health sector reforms. WHO is promoting its inclusion in health policies because of its positive features, which include accessibility and affordability in many parts of the world and broad acceptance among developing countries. Under the parasol of traditional medicinal systems, the Unani system of medicine is gaining global acceptance due to the amazing clinical efficiency of the formulations. To obtain effective drug with proven efficacy, it is necessary to establish standards through modern scientific and technical procedures which would certainly enhance the reputation and acceptance of traditional medicines. Sufoof-e-mohazzil is used by Unani physicians for treatment of obesity. The present work involves standardization of Sufoof-e-mohazzil in order to assess the quality of In-house and marketed formulations. This can be used as reference standard to evaluate the quality control in herbal industries and to overcome batch-to-batch variations. The Book would be also valuable to teachers, students and researchers.
