Statistical evaluation of the traumatology patient population at the University of Basel

The treatment of facial injuries is one of the main tasks of oral and maxillofacial surgery. It covers a broad spectrum of bone fractures in the viscerocranial region and the base of the skull, injuries to the teeth and periodontium and soft tissue injuries of all degrees of severity. All age groups are represented, from childhood to old age. The diagnosis of facial injuries has become much better in recent years (mainly due to technological advances in equipment). The spectrum of treatment has been considerably expanded in recent years and new therapeutic options are available to us (e.g. minimally invasive treatment).
