Strategies of Politeness in Requests as Used by Najdi Female Speakers
Details
This work studies the range of linguistic strategies used by young Najdi female speakers in their requests. It attempts to investigate the applicability of Brown and Levinson's theory of politeness in the Najdi Saudi culture in light of speech act theory. In doing so, the author tries to support the claim of universality for politeness theory based on the assumption that people from different cultures speaking various languages have the same underlined social needs which they try to fulfil.
