Strategy for achieving excellence in genetic counseling

The advances that have taken place in the field of human genetics have revolutionized our understanding of the role of genetic factors in human health and in the origin of diseases. They are highly valuable tools for the design of new strategies for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. We propose a strategy to achieve excellence in the Genetic Counseling (GA) services, starting from the study of the indicators of the genetics program from 2001 - 2006, and evaluating the behavior of its effectiveness, also involving ethical and bioethical aspects, in the municipality of San Cristóbal. As a result of our work, there is an improvement in the coverage indicators of the genetics programs, but it is still below 100%. There is a high percentage in the classification of B in the parameter level of knowledge, which measures the effectiveness of genetic counseling, a high percentage of respondents are satisfied with the Genetic Counseling. The proposed strategies are aimed at achieving excellence in Genetic Counseling in the San Cristobal Municipality.
