Strengthening Metropolitan Relations

One of the greatest challenges facing modern urban societies is understanding how to organize huge metropolitan areas. What is the secret to developing metropolitan governance? How can we deal with the dilemmas of a metropolis in the Brazilian federal context, where interests are often conflicting and institutional arrangements are fragile? This book provides an overview of the willingness of municipalities in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region to overcome the challenges of cooperation and suggests ways to strengthen metropolitan governance, in particular those that favor the construction of a positive agenda for intergovernmental coordination.
