Stressors, coping mechanisms and quality of life among TB patients

Tuberculosis (hereafter, TB) lesions have been found in the Egyptian mummies perhaps as early as 3700 BC.TB has become the most important infections disease in the world,it kills more than 1 million women per year.Individuals afflicted with TB have many illness-related stressors such as pain, financial problem and dependency, stigma and threat to self-esteem. The way individuals cope with illness-related stressors can influence their emotional, physiological and behavioral reactions. Therefore, there is need to investigate how individuals afflicted with TB cope with illness- relate stressors in order to facilitate patient s optimal adaptation to TB. Nurses can assist patient by providing support, information, critical analysis and alternative problem- solving strategies to further improve the quality of life of these patients.
