Students, Teachers and Malpractices

This article has examined the multifaceted nature of academic malpractices in Indian engineering colleges, highlighting both student and teacher-related unethical behaviours. It has explored the root causes-ranging from societal pressure, flawed education systems, inadequate faculty training, to the commercialization of education-and the wide-reaching impacts these malpractices have on students' learning, institutional credibility, and the country's technical manpower.This article outlined a wide range of preventive and corrective measures. These include:- Strengthening examination systems through technology and strict supervision, - Promoting transparency and impartiality in grading, - Raising awareness about academic integrity among both students and teachers,- Introducing institutional policies like anonymous evaluation, ethics committees, and peer-reviewed assessments,- Encouraging support systems for stressed or struggling students,- Fostering an educational culture that values honesty and meritocracy.

Venkata Ramana Mulpuri is currently Professor of Physics at the Anurag University, Venkatapur, Hyderabad .He received PhD degree in the field of Spectroscopy, in1990. He is the recipient of DST Young Scientist Award and has 38 years of teaching experience in Higher Educational Institutions. He serves as editorial board member for various journals.
