As a pioneer of translating Eastern literary works, including Korean, Malaysian, and Bruneian poetry, Professor Arif Karkhi Abukhudairi Mahmoud perceives translation, not as a literal transfer, but rather as a new literary creation, a work of art that should not be compared to the original text, but should be evaluated as an independent literary work. In these seven studies in the art of translation, Professor Abukhudairi relates his personal experience in rendering a number of Asian poetry books into the Arabic language. He discusses the problems he faced, and the solutions he offered to overcome them. In the meantime, he highlights the method he adopted in his literary Arabic translations.

Egyptian poet,novelist, and translator, Dr Arif Karkhi Abukhudairi is a bilingual writer and his poetry has been translated into eighteen languages. He translated anthologies from English, Malay, Persian and Korean into Arabic. His academic works include the Arabs and the Art of Translation, Foreign literature in Arabic, and literary translation.
