Studies on Ecology of Celosia Argentea

Celosia argentea L is one of the dominating weed in Andhra Pradesh. It has been found to grow in all semi arid crop fields like Arachis hypogeae, Raphanus sativus, Sorghum bicolor, Dolichos lab lab, Vigna unguiculata, Cajanus cajan, Phaseolous aureus in kharif season. In Andhra Pradesh it appears from August to February. It is an annual herb. Propagation by means of seeds. The plant is used as leafy vegetable and also fodder for cattle. Seed expresses dormancy. It's enormous seed banks, high reproductive capacity, dormancy to withstand in unfavorable conditions, synchronizing the Biological clock with that of crop plants make it successful weed in semiarid crop fields.
