Study of Groundwater Recharge By RWH in Besant,Tamil Nadu,India

The groundwater recharge was estimated in Basant Nagar area of Chennai using rainwater harvesting techniques that employ artificial recharge. The rainfall data for the Basant Nagar (Chennai district) area has been collected during the year from March 2009 to February 2010. The recharge pits are the sources for the ground water recharge in the study area. The total amount of water becoming available to the consumer depends upon the total rainfall in a year and the rooftop surface available for collection to recharge the aquifer.Rainwater harvesting can be used for both indoor and outdoor purposes in residential, commercial, and industrial applications. The harvested rainwater can be utilized during the drought.
