Study of Participation among Scheduled Caste Girls in Schools
Details
The study is an attempt to understand the problems faced specifically by girls belonging to the Scheduled Caste population (Disadvantaged Groups) in a Scheduled Caste dominated remote village in the state of Haryana. The struggle of the households in order to earn their livelihood and the insecurities in terms of obtaining food, employment and basic facilities like health, transportation etc makes it very difficult to educate the children. Although education seems to be a priority, but when it comes to educating especially the girls it received less importance. The study tries to understand the various impediments in educating the girl child and to understand the familial decisions adapted by the households whether to let free the girl child from unpaid domestic chores enabling her to participate in schooling or to retain her for domestic chores.
