SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND ITS IMPACT ON STUDENTS IN KENYAN UNIVERSITIES

In the recent past higher education in Africa has witnessed significant changes. While this has been a positive development, it is apparent that it has often excluded student experiences that impact on quality learning. As a result, the general public and university community are unaware of the basic aspects of student life including substances of abuse. This book illuminates the profound challenge of substance abuse among university students in Kenya. It fills the void in planning for the present and future of African universities by highlighting the impact of substance abuse on students' participation in academic activities. It recommends a holistic approach to reforms in higher education policies that include quality of learning environments and student participation in academic activities. The book is useful to higher education policy makers, curriculum developers, university community and development partners.

Dr. Dinah Changwony holds a PhD in Education from Moi University Kenya. She is an educationist, enterprise and public policy practitioner with experience across higher education, administrative levels of Government and development sectors.
