Sudanese Women Microbusinesses

This book delves into the lives of severely isolated, low-income women who have turned to microbusiness as a means to cope with poverty and secure their livelihoods. It distinguishes small-scale enterprises from traditional entrepreneurship, highlighting their role in generating income for displaced women from diverse backgrounds. Some of these women have received minimal training, while others operate their businesses as supplementary endeavors alongside their primary employment to combat poverty. Throughout their journeys, they face numerous obstacles, particularly various forms of vulnerability, exclusion, and discrimination. They offer insights and lessons from their experiences for the first time. The main aim of this book is to deepen the understanding of unregistered microbusinesses as a survival strategy employed by displaced Sudanese women facing poverty, based on qualitative research conducted by the authors.
