Supplementation of concentrate to SSB silage on performance in sheep

Livestock production in the developing countries has been one of the most important economic and social activities of human culture. Ruminants have served and will continue to serve a valuable role in sustainable agricultural system. They are particularly useful in converting vast renewable resources from rangeland, pasture and crop residues into food, edible for humans. Among ruminants, sheep and goats play a vital role in the rural economy of India. They not only provide food security, employment and manure but also have great social value. Incorporation of unconventional feedstuffs, such as agro-industrial by-products (AIBP) in animal diets may help in solving the problem of feed shortage. Many economic advantages could be obtained through processing and recovering such agricultural by-products in different methods, including ensiling, biological, chemical and mechanical treatments. Dealing with such residues and agro-industrial by-products led to, decrease the feeding costs and alleviate the pollution problems. One in this direction is sweet sorghum bagasse, an agro-industrial by-product of ethanol industry.
