Surgical and functional treatment of calcaneal fractures.
Details
This is a retrospective comparative study of 48 calcaneus fractures treated in the orthopaedic surgery department of the Habib Bourguiba University Hospital in Sfax. We will compare the functional, physical and anatomical results of the surgical and functional treatment of these fractures. The most frequent mechanism was a fall from a height. Complex fractures were treated surgically (84.3%). Type I fractures according to the Duparc classification were treated by the functional method (100%).The means of osteosynthesis used were: Screw fixation, plates and pinning. The main complications were: thrombophlebitis, algodystrophy, callus and arthrosis. The satisfaction rate (62.5%) was the same for both surgical and non-surgical treatment. The overall physical result was satisfactory in 64.6% of cases. This result was better in non-operated patients (70%) than in operated patients (60%). The anatomical result was better with surgical treatment. The satisfaction rate was 85.5% of cases (45.88% of operated cases and 39.62% of non-operated cases).
