The issue of food waste is becoming increasingly important today - whether in documentaries or through the efforts of committed individuals who are trying to combat the problem through various projects. Food waste involves not only the food itself, but also the resources used to produce it. This paper examines the problem of food waste and the initiatives being taken across Europe and Austria to combat it, and attempts to show the extent of this waste. It also highlights the importance of raising awareness as a key step in the fight against food waste.

Durante os meus estudos, dediquei-me a temas ambientais. Ao longo dos meus anos de trabalho na hotelaria e restauração, pude constatar em primeira mão a quantidade de alimentos que são deitados fora. Os quatro meses que passei num projeto ambiental na Costa Rica também me ensinaram muito. Por isso, escolhi este tema para a minha tese de final de curso.
