Swear Word Usage
Details
This book gives an overview of how dirty words work in daily life conversations and what cultural prohibitions are reflected in Taiwan. Swear words in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese are different yet similar from swear words used in western languages. Swearing in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese has lot to do with their cultural and historical background. This study collected data through recording and the results show that prohibited things, such as sex and death, and behaviors that go against social norms, are considered taboo in Chinese culture.
