A variety of pharmacological activities have been exhibited by 2,3-disubstituted 1,8-naphthyridines. For example, 2-amino-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxamide is well known for its diuretic property. Further, there has been growing interest in screening the above compounds for their potent antibacterial and antifungal properties. Therefore, the synthesis of 1,8-naphthyridine derivatives has become a continuous interest to synthetic organic chemists. Hence it was felt worthwhile to take up the synthesis of hitherto unreported 2,3-disubstituted 1,8-naphthyridines. Interaction of 2-methyl-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carbazide with alcohols to give 2-methyl-1,8-naphthyridin-3-yl carbamic esters has been presented in this work.

Dr. Ramesh Domala, MSc., PhD is presently working in Mahatma Gandhi University, Anneparthy, Nalgonda. He has 15 years of teaching and industrial experience. He did his Postgraduation from Osmania University, Hyderabad and Doctorate from Kakatiya University. His field of interests includes Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Green Chemistry.
