Present work describes the synthesis of novel active methylene derivatives by using benzene diazonium salts. The synthesized compounds are further reacted with metal salts to produce complexes. The synthesized Compounds are checked for their biological activities and seed germination inhibition values. The synthesized ligands and their metal complexes were screened for their antibacterial activity against two Gram-positive ( B subtilis and S aureus ) and two Gram-negative ( E coli and P aeruginosa ) bacterial strains. The activity data show that ligands are more antibacterial than metal complexes against bacterial species
