Amongst phosphorus compounds, aminophosphonates and their derivatives have received considerable attention in recent years because they exhibit intriguing biological activities. -aminophosphonate derivatives are gaining lot of importance in medicinal chemistry due to their applications as enzyme inhibitors, pharmacological agents , herbicides , antibiotics and inhibitors of Excitatory Post- Synaptic Potential (EPSP) synthase and HIV Protease . -Aminophosphonic acids seem to be even closer analogues of their -amino phosphonic counter parts due to their monobasic/acidic character and higher stability of the P-C bond of phosphonicacids compared with the P-O bond. Due to its medicinal importance such as anti-cancer, anti-HIV, antithrombotic and antibacterial properties, lot of reviews are needed to guide the reader into this fascinating aspect of phosphorus chemistry. This book has been initiated with this motto.
