Synthesis of new hydantoins and thiohydantoins

Hydantoins and thiohydantoins exhibit a wide range of biological activities, including anticonvulsant, antiarrhythmic, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic prop erties, as well as herbicidal and fungicidal activity. The formation of a carbon nitrogen bond is of importance for the synthesis of nitrogen-containing natural products and biologically active systems. As part of our study on the development of new routes to heterocyclic systems, we now report on the synthesis of functionalized hydantoins and thiohydantoins.
