System Components for Video on Demand

Video on Demand is regarded as one of the most important applications of the future interactive TV. It will let people rent movies directly from their living room, by using a remote control to select the desired movie. The movie is then sent to the TV in a similar way as digital TV. This book proposes solutions to various problems that have slowed the adoption of VoD systems for years. The solutions deal with cost-effectiveness of VoD systems, interoperability of different components, ease of use for clients and providers alike.

Florin Lohan received his M.Sc. from "Politehnica" University of Bucharest, in 1997, and his Ph.D. in Multimedia Architectures from Tampere University of Technology, in 2004. In 2002 he co-started Ondems Ltd, a small company selling digital TV servers, mostly based on the results obtained from his Ph.D. work. Currently Florin works for Nokia.
