Taiwan in the Web of US Hegemony presents the evolution of an unequal relationship between Taiwan and the US from 1949 to 2005. It analyzes how Taiwan's economy was transformed because of the US hegemony in the region. This book puts Taiwan within the US-led East Asia to investigate both Taiwan's development experience and its strategic role in the region. It argues that Taiwan's economic growth in the past and economic difficulties at present are highly related to the combination of Taiwan's particular position, politically and geographically, and the various US policies at different times. Min-Hua Chiang was awarded a Ph.D. with distinction (Très honorable avec félicitations)in International Political Economy from the Université Pierre Mendès France de Grenoble in 2008. She is currently working as an assistant researcher at Commerce Development Research Institute, Taiwan.
