Tea Cultivation in Nepal
Details
Ilam and Jhapa districts are the major tea producing areas of Nepal. Despite its profitability, various problems have been observed in this sector. An exploratory research was conducted by the author involving small tea growers and stakeholders involved in tea promotion in Ilam and Jhapa districts of Nepal. The respondents were assessed for their profile characteristics, level of knowledge and adoption of recommended tea cultivation practices. Also, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) of tea cultivation perceived by the tea growers as well as the stakeholders were analyzed and presented. Based on the research, suitable strategies were recommended for the further promotion of tea cultivation in Nepal.

The author hails from Bahundangi-1, Jhapa, Nepal. He has completed Masters of Science in Agricultural Extension from Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Hyderabad, India. He is currently working as a Teaching Assistant at Tribhuwan University, Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Paklihawa Campus, Bhairahawa, Nepal.
